In our daily lives we walk, and perhaps even run, but
few of us believe that we could make the Olympic track
team tomorrow. Somehow though, we think we inherit superb
driving skills without ever having to consider what were
doing.
According to the National Highway
Traffic Safety Association
- Las year in the United States 43,443 people were
killed in automobile crashes
- Speeding was a factor in over 30% of these crashes
- Total damages were over 230 BILLION DOLLARS
- Automobile crashes are the leading cause of death
for people between the ages of 4 – 34
- 58% of these crashes involved cars leaving the
roadway
- 55% of victims were unrestrained
- 15-20 year old drivers make up 6.5% of our licensed
drivers but are involved in 12.6% of fatal crashes
- In 2005 3,467 drivers 15-20 years old were killed
in automobile crashes. Drivers in the same age group
injured another 281,000 people.
